I think that it's sad when these places ask so much money to ADOPT a pet.

Some of these animals have serious issues and they should all be by donation ONLY and pet adoption should be free or close to it. They're asking a lot of money. $100- $350!! Adopting a pet should be free!

It's not just OSCAR, it's becoming a serious business.

What the heck are the fundraisers for? most of the people at these places don't volunteer, they get paid hourly or are salaried. They also do the easier jobs. The volunteers are always asked to do the dirty jobs. I'm sure it's not that way everywhere but... it seems like they're becoming the new (preowned)pet shops.

Reason of review: Pricing issue.

Boy, are you going to get blasted, but I have to agree. The term preowned pet shop is the perfect term for it.

Iโ€™ve, personally seen local rescues absolutely REFUSE to help with relinquished animals without cash...$200 per dog! No money? They didnโ€™t care about the dogs welfare.....not without the cash. I get it, to, that thereโ€™s expenses incurred with โ€œhelpingโ€ these animals, but, like you said, they have fund raisers, magazines with expensive, vet and animals advertising, they receive wills, trusts and private donations from all kinds of sources.

They couldnโ€™t help an animal....just one...for free? No way, THATs how we see the transparency regarding this new โ€œPCโ€ money grab.

The adopters and volunteers have no idea that itโ€™s a money machine, so kudos to them for their big hearts. Ignorance is bliss.

Free ? .... You have obviously never run any sort of business.> Who is paying the heat and lights ?> What about the rent and real estate taxes ?> What about supplies and medical equipment ?> People are to work there, for free, forever ?> They are already providing a great service by cleaning up other peoples' mess.I think I understand what you want , but it's not possible.

Many of your comments are correct. No profit is made from the adoption though.

These dogs and cats come from kill shelters down south....Kentucky, West Virginia, etc. Many have been abused physically or mentally. Donation fees are used to offset the cost of vetting these companions. Our fundraisers and donations are what help pay the bills.

If humans didn't beat, abandon, toss into the garbage, there wouldn't be a need for shelters. I volunteer at a no kill, not for profit, shelter. At our rescue, no volunteers are paid.

There are 2 girls who are paid to take care of the dogs during the day. They are not considered volunteers although they work very hard for what they're paid
